My Top 20 Movies of 2011

For posterity and a false sense of self importance, I like to deliver a couple of lists of the things I’ve enjoyed in the past 12 months at the end of each year. For my movie list the only criteria was that I could include any movie I first watched in 2011.

1. 50/50

I would love to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogan make many more movies together. Their friendship seemed effortless and it made me care about this movie the most this year. I was fighting back tears through the last third.

2. Black Swan

Aronofoski, Cassell, Kunis, Portman, Ryder. YES x 5

3. Moneyball

Brad Pitt is forgiven for Tree of Life, He’s back in the game but Jonah Hill Steals the movie.

4. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

David ‘Fucking’ Fincher delivers on the promise of THAT trailer, I was never in doubt. Enya 4EVER!!!!!

5. Kings Speech

Moved me more than any other movie this year. Loved it.

6. Drive

Coolest movie of the year. Soundtrack of the Year. Poster of the Year. Gosling is the MAN of the year.

I loved last years Woody Allen movie ‘Whatever Works’, this is even better. Haven’t smiled as much watching a movie this year.

17. Page One: Inside the New York Times

Facinating documentary about the decline in readership at the New York Times thanks to emerging technologies, not as boring as it sounds.

18. Super 8

19. Knuckle

Gypsies bashing one another in country lanes, fantastic.

20. Paradise Lost 1 and 2

Go visit www.wm3.org and read about this story then go find these documentaries about it. It will make you sad and angry but it’s worth it. The last in the series airs in the states next week.
